Dana McKee
A native of North Carolina, Dana graduated from East Carolina University with a BS in Communication Disorders, then earned a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Radford University. She has worked in several settings over the years as a Speech Pathologist. Her journey into natural health began back in 1999 with her own health crisis. Shortly after her youngest son was born, she began battling her own health issues. After many Dr's visits and unsuccessful medications, her lactation specialist referred her to a local herbalist. Little did she know that this visit would have such an impact on her life. While she focused on supporting her body nutritionally through wiser food choices, she also began using herbal supplements. Dana will tell you her herbalist saved her life not just physically but spiritually and emotionally too. Her career path was positively changed through her own health crisis. "I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 20 years ago and I was scheduled for surgery on January 3, 2011 to remove my colon/large intestine as I have exhibited high grade dysplasia during my last two colonoscopies in both 2009 and 2010. My husband and I have tried both positive and negative reinforcement techniques. Bought her a special "big girl" bed. Tried a chart system that would reward her for sleeping in her bed for a certain number of days in a row (we have offered some pretty nice stuff too - joking between the two of us that it did not matter because by the time she stayed in her bed consistently she would be in college). We have taken away activities/toys, etc. When my son was old enough to be in a toddler bed, we decided to try letting B sleep in his room. I was told about the CieAura Sleep Chips. Before I would consider putting anything unconventional on my daughter, I did a lot of research. It seemed that the biggest "criticism" of the chips was people could essentially "mind over matter" the results. An adult who put a sticker on their head to help them sleep may be able to "think" themselves into sleeping better. I get it. That is a reasonable criticism. However, this would not be the case with a four year old. After a few weeks, I finally ordered. K.R was with me every step of the way (and has been ever since).
The sleep chips arrived and were immediately named "magic sleep stickers". The first two nights my daughter clearly slept better. She still woke up and came in our room around 3 a.m., but the one thing I never mentioned to K.R and purposely have not mentioned til now is that my daughter is a mouth wide-open snorer. B's energy level is higher, her mood is elevated, her tantrums are reduced significantly, and she wakes up HAPPY, not groggy. Even after a full day of school, she is energetic and in a good mood. Before the sleep chips, she would fall asleep on the way home from school. I went in as a skeptic, but hopeful because I desperately wanted to sleep again. Now I have to say, dealing with IBS I usually use the bathroom 5-6 times in the morning before 8am. It's become part of my daily routine so it's something I am quite used to. I used the bathroom the first time the morning before I put on my patch. It wasn't until I was leaving the gym, where I usually have to go twice, that I realized...I hadn't had to use the bathroom since before I put on the chip. I thought it was just a coincidence. I wore the chip all day and did not have to go to the bathroom. Within 10 minutes of taking off the chip when I got home I was in the bathroom and was back to normal. I was very impressed with the results of my chip but being the skeptic that I am I wanted to have a few more trial runs before 'officially' believing.
